If there’s one thing about Usher, it’s that he knows how to set the mood. In Vogue’s best celebrity skincare moments of 2023, everyone from the “Boyfriend” singer to PinkPantheress, Jihyo, Salem Mitchell, Julianne Moore, and Eva Longoria have spilled their secrets for preternaturally glowing skin. But first, both Usher and Niall Horan ignite an actual glow, lighting candles as they begin their multistep skincare regimes (Horan’s scent of choice? Salt & Stone’s Saffron & Cedar.) Herewith, take a look at the best skincare tips from the past year in celebrity beauty.

To start, even famous faces need a good daily cleanse. Alia Bhatt is partial to the D’You balm, while Emma Roberts prefers the milky texture of Biologique Recherche Lait Vip O2. Arsema Thomas sticks with African Black Soap, while Kathryn Newton is a “double cleanse kind of girl” who uses Epicuren Herbal and Earthen SkinCare to get the job done. TikTok made Lexi Underwood try Corsx’s viral Snail Mucin cleanser, while Issa Rae gravitates toward the iconic CeraVe.

Next, Bhatt dunks her face into a frigid bowl of ice, while Horan prefers something steamier. “It opens up them pores,” he says, clutching his smart steamer from Vanity Planet. Speaking of pores, Kiehl’s cucumber-mint toner helps Mitchell feel “super confident” in her own skin. PinkPantheress opts for a creamier toner from Laneige, while Lola Tung brightens up with Good Molecules’ Niacinamide Brightening Toner.

Ariana Grande isn’t sure which way Shiseido’s pure retinol eye masks go, but she’ll take their smoothing powers any way she can get them. Alycia Debnam-Carey has found that not all eye masks work. But Peter Thomas Roth’s Cloud Patches? “These work,” she avows. Moore’s hydrating Hourglass eye balm “soaks right into” her skin, and she uses it day and night. “Especially at night,” she says. Grande’s “favorite” eye balm is the cooling, blurring formulation from R.E.M

Serums treat a host of celebrity skincare concerns. (After all, they’re just like us.) Tung says Westman Atelier’s Skin Activator “saves the day” when she has dry patches, while Lauren London appreciates Purpl and Prosper’s Calm Complexion Serum. “Growing up, I don’t remember any Black-owned skin products around my household,” she says. “Now, it’s available, it’s out there. It’s skin products that actually understand what’s going on.”

Celebrity freezers have beauty secrets of their own: “Big silver balls; I always have mine in the freezer,” says Horan of his depuffing Hani Emi Cryo Globes. Amelia Gray gets a cooling, lymphatic-drainage assist with Nurse Jamie’s GlowGlobe; Anok Yai keeps her face wands on ice, too.

Red-light therapy has seeped into celebrity skincare, and Phoebe Tonkin takes her LED with a spiritual twist: “I put this [Light Therapy Mask] on, and then I put on a 10-minute meditation or manifestation,” she says.

Not even the best security detail can shield an A-lister from UV rays. Jennifer Garner incorporates SPF into her regime with Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost, while Carlacia Grant favors Black Girl Sunscreen. Mindy Kaling slathers on Supergoop!, while Grande has taken to mixing her EltaMD SPF with La Mer moisturizer. While reaching for her own moisturizer, Rae notes: “In my twenties, I didn’t see specific skincare products for Black people. [Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Darker Skin Tones Face Cream] immediately appealed to me.”

Celebrities follow their face mists with a little something for the lips. Kanza sleeps with Fenty’s Skin Plush Puddin’ on, while Leigh-Anne Pinnock says that Carmex balm is “the only thing that really works.” Kylie Jenner keeps her famous pout smooth with Sugar Lip Scrub, while Usher’s La Mer lip balm is “very precious” to him. “No one likes dry lips, right?” he asks.
