A Very Fashionable Story Time with Chloë Sevigny and Chopova Lowena

  • Fashion

A sea of spliced plaid mini skirts and rainbow mesh tops descended upon the 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman last night as the New York fashion scene gathered to watch Chloe Sevigny read a fairy tale. To a captive audience, she read Conversations with Angels—Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena’s (founders of their eponymous brand Chopova Lowena) retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. However, the Chopova Lowena version was written by poet Precious Okoyomon, photographed by Charlotte Wales, and stars the one and only Chloë Sevigny.

Chloë Sevigny x Chopova Lowena feels like a match made in cool-girl fashion heaven, and for that, we have Sevigny’s husband to thank. “My husband was looking at the skirts, and I was like, ‘what is that brand!’” She continued, “They [Chopova Lowena] approached me with this project, and I said, ‘Of course! I want to give myself to you and your fantasy and whatever you want to create. I am your model, your piece of clay; mold me into whatever. I am here!’ I was just game.”

While sipping on Champagne and floral cocktails in the Bergdorf restaurant, guests such as Alia Raza, Becky Akinyode, Mina Le, Nina Tiari, Oyinda, Quil Lemons, and Rowan Blanchard were graced with a live reading of the fairy tale from the snow queen herself. The crowd was fixated as Sevigny perched on a chair and gave her best school teacher presentation.

“We are very much obsessed, to say the least. We were super excited when she [Sevigny] bought our necklace, and ever since, we have thought that she is the perfect person that embodies everything we love, and we wanted to work with her,” explained Emma Chopova. “We do books because they are something to treasure and are more long-lasting. It was the perfect fit.”

Guests were undeniably captivated by the iconic collaboration as, at the end of the night, a few copies of Conversations With Angels were spotted tucked under the arms of the fashionable group as they scurried out of the cocktail hour and back down to 58th Street.
