Would You Let ChatGPT Dress You For NYFW?

  • Fashion

New York Fashion Week is six short days away and if you’re like me you’re still trying to figure out what to wear. For a bit of fun this season, I turned to ChatGPT for help. The question I put to the tool was simple: What do you think will be trending at New York Fashion Week this month? While the bot couldn’t cobble together styling boards for us (hopefully that technology is in the works), it was able to provide us with a list of 11 ideas that are definitely in synch with the trends that have emerged in the past few seasons.

The full list included things like “Craftsmanship and Artisanal Details,” and “Tech-Driven Fashion,” as well as two (!) mentions of sustainability; “Sustainable Fashion,” meaning “the use of organic and recycled materials, ethical production methods, and a focus on circular fashion,”and “Sustainability in Design,” which is more focused on “upcycling, zero-waste techniques, and locally sourced materials.”

While ChatGPT’s recommendations were top notch, what really stuck with me was its closing message, which read: “It’s best to follow fashion news, designer announcements, and industry-insiders for the most accurate and current information about upcoming trends.” From the chat bot’s mouth to your ears, make sure you follow along on Vogue Runway as Phil Oh begins his across-the-world tour to document the best dressed guests, editors, celebrities, and stylists at the shows. Scroll through for our favorite ChatGPT fashion trends below:

Maximalism

ChatGPT: “After a period of minimalism, there’s been a resurgence of vibrant styles. Look for bold patterns, mix-and-match textures, and accessories that make a statement.”

Cardi B was ahead of the trend. At the fall 2023 couture shows, she pulled up in an array of over-the-top looks.

Nostalgia and Vintage

ChatGPT: “Nostalgic fashion inspired by different eras often makes a comeback. Styles from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s might influence upcoming collections.”

Well, we didn’t need ChatGPT to tell us about this one, the big jean resurgence is already here. Paris, fall 2023 couture
